And your 3 hrs. journey turns into 3 Yrs.

Second Scenario, She comes next to you. You introduce yourself to her, exchange one or two magazines, share jokes. And you find just 5 minute before plane took-off and why its landing now.
And in last if nothing you at least ends up as friends.

Am I gone mad talking all crap here on Monsters. No ...Actually I want to share one concept of Story telling . How we should we move into the story. Starting any story is quite challenging task in itself.
Same like theatre stage. Many monsters knows Chippy keeps telling about Strong Entry & exit from the stage. Coming Back to the point.
You don't bombard your audience in very start of the movie. You let them grab their seats, Feel them comfortable and smoothly take them into the story. Once they are into the story, you keep moving and catch up the pace with time. Wise man says Example is twice effective then words. So wisely I,m taking to two movies.

1. Chicken Little and
2. Finding Nemo

I feel Chicken Little is one of the weak opening I've seen. In very beginning we see so many things happening. Suddenly main character pops up ..." Hey Sky is falling...Run...Run.. blah...blah... "
.... WHAT MAN ???......

I'm not saying just opening sequence was the reason behind Chicken little's failure, there may be more...but this is one of the reason.

And in contrast with chicken little see Finding Nemo's opening sequence. ..BEAUTIFUL !!!..
Just experience the pace, built up, then journey.... lot to learn from Nemo.

I won't forget to say going slowly into story is the only way....but this can be Axiom. Otherwise there is many movie which stars with ...BANG !...
Kung Fu Panda,Armageddon are few to name.
So all depends on your sense of story telling. My purpose was to highlight this point. I hope I did the Job.

First of all, I'm thankful to my room-mate who got me the ticket for the preview of Madagascar-Escape 2 Africa. I was fortunate to be among some crazy lads from Dreamworks.I know you are least interested in this stuff. so here is, What I feel about the Movie.

I'll say 'Average' but worth watching once. Mr. I.S mathur ( NID professor ) once told us in our Film Language session that more and more sugar makes Poison.This movie is very good example of his statement.
So many things are happening there. Alex story is going on at one place, Melvin & Goria cooking something else, Martin at another place, Penguin are busy in their own world, New yorkers in their own, one villain ( New Character ) in his own and around 5-6 new character are also popping in to GET FAMOUS.
I will say Madagascar was far better as they had one concentrated story about someone or about a Group. But in Madagascar-2 I'm still trying to figure out that, this story is about whom.
I want to talk about many things but then you guys will curse me for disclosing it.

But there are so many thing which I won't forget to appreciate. Movie is full with Gags. Animation is Super Cool. So precisely I will say worth watching Once.

And yes there are few guys who liked the movie to the core. So its Individual thing and this is what I feel about it. I would love to listen from someone who disagree with me. So that I might see another perception.

VISUAL ELEMENTS

No doubt audience watch any film, play or short by his own will. But while watching any artwork or movie, its not their choice what they look at, and what should be ignore. its an onus on Film maker to direct audience eyes...instead of letting them wander in whole screen...or even out of screen if you lucky to have one hot chick next to you... :)

And as we all know Animator are story-teller..so its becomes more important to us use Visual Elements intelligently.
Here is few element I want to share with you guys.

SHARPNESS & BLUR
I'm sure most of will be knowing of this.One of the basic element, Figure of lesser importance in frame goes out of focus from eye.

Our eyes attract more towards the figure, which is comfortable for eyes....Its natural thing.

LIGHTING
Do I need to say Anything ?

Any distraction ? No...so do I need to say anything here?

STATIC V/s MOVING
See this particular shot in Ratatouille, In whole frame, share of Remy & his brother is almost nil. But still we don't distract from them... no doubt lighting also have his piece of cake.
Cause in whole composition, everything is static except Remy & Co. and our eyes attracts more towards moving objects. Again natural thing...not my fault.

EXCEPTIONS ALWAYS THERE !
But if the movements are general part of movements & flow then moving object do not distract our eyes but dramatically add to the static objects.So you need to be wise.So have milk & be smart.. :)

OH ! Away from posting Since ages. Anyways. This is one wired thought came in my mind so thought of making something on based on the same.

VERTICAL LIMIT

Since past few months I,ve been focusing on compositions. There is lot to learn about composition but I want to share with you guys what I've got till now.
Though its not directly related to Animation but As we know Animators are Film Makers. so its become very important to make every frame good and counted.Its something about lines and Shapes in any composition.

We all must have seen Song Tanhai From DIL CHAHTA HAI. In that song Farhan Akhtar has composed most of the scene where we can see Vertical Lines.
Vartical lines in an composition always give more Tensed situation. In contrast horizontal lines divides compostion in layer so give peaceful mood. You can see in this image.(click for clear view.) And you can figure out tht these vartical lines are not by chance but intentionally framed.

So apart from animation there are things which create the mood.

NOTE : Its not necessary that Verical lines only gives tense feel. But they add lot of energy and activeness also. So make your compostion smartly.

You'll find lot of flaws in animation but I love this and why should not. Cause of this only I got internship in Ittina Studios.
In my Jury Manu Ittina & Bill Miller were there and Vaibhav was as external jury. You know .....actually you don't know ......For presentation I got full marks and one special Remark from Bill Miller and the Remark was
" I enjoyed your sense of Humor."
Believe me this remark matters the most even more than Animation. Please feel free to criticize....you most welcome

HI FOLKS.
This is my LOGO. This I did in our Professional Practice.
Let me share my thought behind this LOGO. Personally I love monkey and their movement esp. when they scratch their head.... :) :) :)
Anyways. I named this as ' THE SLEEPING MONKEY.' As you know I love to make GAGs and Cartoon so I thought of put one of my GAG.
This Gag is improved version of GANDHI's three monkey. But I instead of having three I make only one Monkey who do all those thing which three do. This is sleeping monkey who ' See no evil, hear no evil , Speak no evil.'
At the same time I paid lot of attention on making it visually appealing and funny.

Please tell me if its appeal to you. And if you feel I lost somewhere please feel free to say.

A SHORT of feeling

Hi Guys
I've something good to share with you guys. As I mentioned Vaibhav Kumaresh ( He is main man behind Simpu, Birthday Bhoot, Chulbuli and many more mind blowing creative piece of Animation work) came as Jury member.
Now days we are working under his supervision to finish one 3D Short film. Its 6 days session. We will be doing everything from concept to creation except Character Rigs. Its very very difficult to make any short film in 6 Days but we are hopeful and its seems we will finish it.

Let me brief about what we doing. Yesterday we 9 guys pitched 20 Ideas before Vaibhav and Manu Ittina. Most of the idea was really good. Me and sunpreet were lucky as our story selected.
So till now we are ready with Storyboard, 2D animatics, Character Design, Background sound track.
By tomorrow morning we have tosubmit 3D animatics with color references. So I think I should go now to make my Morning 'Good'.

MY SECOND INNING

So today finally my course has finish. We had Manu Ittina, Vaibhav Kumaresh and Bll Miller in our Jury. I was very excited and bit nervous before the Jury. I feel finally my presentation was good. But how good it was, Only results will say.
So now I am free from student life and will be moving in professional life. I am very curious and excited about this second inning of my life.

While doing one action asgn. one thought strike in mind. When working on timeline I usually forget the realtime. while posing we think of Number of frame and sometime even 10 frame seems too much. But acually 10 frame is not even half second. Just pause youself for half second and its not too long. I realised when I was animating eyes. I read it somewhere that usually our eye-lids blinks 2-3 times in minute means 10-12 frames.

Oh! its been 5000 years I didn't post here. Don't know why. But finally I am here.
Actually by not posting I was loosing one important thing.
The thing is 'Talk.' A talk about Animation or anything. More we talk about more we learn and it remains in our memory.
We've three kind of memory. Short-term, Mid-term and Long-term. I read it somewhere long back. If we talk about or remember something for one day It goes in our short-term memory. If we do same on third day it goes into our Mid-term memory. And if we talk about after 18-20 days it goes in our long-term memory.
And anything which is in our long-term memory can easily be seen in our daily practices.
So my dear Kasana what you were doing in these 5000 years. learn it and talk about Animation......... :)

RULE OF THIRDS

The rule of thirds is a compositional rule of thumb in photography and other visual arts such as painting. The rule states that an image can be divided into nine equal parts by two equally-spaced horizontal lines and two equally-spaced vertical lines. The four points formed by the intersections of these lines can be used to align features in the photograph. Proponents of this technique claim that aligning a photograph with these points creates more tension, energy and interest in the photo than simply centering the feature would.

The photograph to the right demonstrates the application of the rule of thirds. The horizon sits at the horizontal line dividing the lower third of the photo from the upper two-thirds. The tree sits at the intersection of two lines, sometimes called a power point. Points of interest in the photo don't have to actually touch one of these lines to take advantage of the rule of thirds. For example, the brightest part of the sky near the horizon where the sun recently set does not fall directly on one of the lines, but does fall near the intersection of two of the lines, close enough to take advantage of the rule.

The application of the rule of thirds to photographs is considered by many to make them more aesthetically pleasing and professional-looking. The rule of thirds can be applied by lining up subjects with the guiding lines, placing the horizon on the top or bottom line instead of the center, or allowing linear features in the photograph to flow from section to section. In addition, many photographers recommend treating any "rule" of composition as more of a guideline, since pleasing photographs can often be made while ignoring one or more such rules.

COMPOSITION NOTES BY TED MATHOT

I got these notes on composition by Pixar story supervisor Ted Mathot. I find these very useful for my study perpose so thought of preserving.

LINE, SPACE and GROUPING:

I'm fascinated by Wes Anderson's use of flat space in his films and his ablility to create dynamic and excitng compositions using flat space (at times combined with deep space) that engage the eye as well as direct the viewer's attention.

Here are a few examples of such shots. I've added arrows to indicate flat space elements and diagonal points of interest.

Generating Interest with LINE:

LINE is one of the building blocks of visual structure and can be broken down into horizontal (least intensity), vertical (more intensity) and diagonal (most intensity). Here are the examples:

Mostly flat space shot of Margot; notice how she generates the strongest diagonals in the shot (phone cord, angle of neck/head, leg), creating an area of interest for the viewer that contrasts with the flat space surrounding her. Those familiar with the rule of thirds will see she's placed right on a dividing line.

Same scene, but this time it's Ethel's posture that's creating the interest. She is engaging Margot at this point. Ethel is active, Margot is passive. The body language says it all here and again they are surrounded by flat space elements.

Generating interest with SPACE:

This is sort of anti-rule of thirds. In this scene there is confrontation between the three characters. They are all squashed into the middle third of the frame, cramping it and raising the intensity. All the characters are vertical lines (not that intense), so it's the deep space and the arrangement of the characters that create the intensity. I like the camera placement here too; it's just above the eyelines of the characters; just high enough to be interesting and to keep us with the characters. Any higher and the shot would start to lose intensity.

Deep space again. Note the perspecting heads leading the eye to Eli. They are all perfectly placed, and for all intents and purposes, TOO perfect. But that is part of the director's style and the shot is richer for it. his face is also at the vanishing point of the shot and all other perspecting lines lead right to it.
Grouping:

I like these shots for how elements are grouped together. The first one is especially interesting to me, with the choice to put the homeless guy up there in the right hand corner and the caution cone and sawhorses in the left corner with Margo and the car being a bridge between the two.

Could this shot work without those other elements? Sure. But it's those extra bits that add interest and texture.

These bottom two shots speak for themselves - showcases for the awesome and hilarious art on Eli's walls. Anderson knew this was going to get a huge laugh; the characters basically have no dialogue here other than "what?" "did you say something?" and "No, I thought you said something".

Awwwwwwwwwwww.........................eeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Excellent movie..........No give me another word. Is awesome is right word. Another level. All blame goes to PIXAR. Yesterday we went to see the movie. Budding animators Modellers n L&S guyz. My friend was telling Each and Every frame is great piece of art work. I' m all for it. In whole movie my Jaw was hitting the ground again n again. ( Sorry for disturbance....... :).. )
Hall as Packed. But as usual again it was very bad to see that after finishing the movie only we few were stayed back to see the whole credit. It something giving respect to those who has moved earth n sky to make movie. Can't blame them also as they don't know the effort goes into making a Movie.

In Animation, one of the best tools you can have is an eye for what looks right or wrong. Some people can really see the elements that are or are not in a shot. Like any good art form, it takes years to develop an understanding of things. In animation we are usually looking out for good poses and design. There are so many different aspects of animation we need to "see" in our shots. Pose, Polish, Cliche acting, Weight transfer, contacts, arcs, texture, asymmetry... The list goes on and on. So how can a young animator develop his or her eye to recognize such stuff? One way is to look at really well done work and break down the components of what makes it so good. Whenever I see something that catches my eye, I really try to frame through it and understand what is going on. Just recently, I saw a bunch of Aardmann Animation. One thing that really blew me away was how good the facial performances were. They had so much thought process and character. I was grinning from ear to ear watching them. It made me want to look at them again as a student. I think that is the key. We can enjoy a film or cartoon as an audience member, but then you have to look at it with another set of eyes. Look at it again with the eye of an animator.

Another way of developing your eye is to look in everyday life. How people or animals do things. If you can, hang around people that are better than you so they can teach you a thing or two, here and there. Whatever you can do to pick up things. Its very important to grow. Ultimately, you are developing your style and that hawk eye for spotting what is and is not working. It takes time, but like anything good, its worth it.

In a talk to students in 1976, the year he retired, Kahl was unusually articulate in summing up his thoughts about the art of animation. "it's a very difficult medium," he refelected. "Animation requires a pretty good draftsman because you got to turn things, to be able to draw well enough to turn things at every angle. you have to understand movement, which itself is quite a study. You have to be an actor. You have to put on a performance, to be a showman, to be able to evaluate how good the entertainment is. You have to know the best way of doing it, and have an appreciation of where it belongs in the picture. You have to be a pretty good story man. To be a really good animator, then, you have to be a jack of all trades. I don't mean to say that I'm all fo these things, but I try hard. I got accused over the years of being a fine draftsman. Actually, I don't really draw all that well. It's just that I don't stop trying as quickly. I keep at it. I happen to have high standards and I try to meet them. I have to struggle like hell to make a drawing look good."

We had to do one character walk with ballman so I choosed to do one polio walk. In lack of live reference I wore only one shoes I walked. And I got all these sketches. I think one of the most powerful principles is Contrast. Contrast is obviously not one of the original principles of animation, but it can be found in many of them. Lets explore some of them. Contrast in pose for instance. Having two characters posed differently can tell the viewer a lot about each character and create an interesting dynamic between them. In the example of Bob and Helen arguing, there is a really nice contrast between Bob's hunched over pose and Helen's more upright one. This then gets flipped when Helen becomes more angry. Contrast is also really great in motion. It directs your eye to where you should be looking. An obvious example would be two people talking. You would not want to move the character that is not talking too much so that you could take in what the other character is saying. Another example could be a crowd of people moving around. The person that is not moving is most likely the person your eye will be drawn to. Animation is like a choreographed dance. You really need to understand how to weave the different elements in and out of your scenes. That reminds me of contrast across many scenes. You want to think about it not just on the scene level, but on a more global one.

this is about one Animation tip our teacher Manu told me one day which is really helped me lot. I would like to share with you guys.Its was about blocking your Animation. He said
" Take shit, polish it whole night and in morning you would have shit in your hand.
Take gold, just polish it for five minute and you will have shining Gold.
So first block your animation, make it gold thn start opening.

Guyz Here is few images of character which made for my first student Animation film project in ZICA. In few days I will be uploading Movie file also. Movie name is ' BILL-THE WATCHMAN' . When I started desiging the character it was diffrent from this but gradually with input from our senior and fuculty I ended up with this design. Personally I find this character very Funny. And In movie he looks more good.

As you all know My name is kasana. I am doing Specialisation in 3D Animation here in Takshaa, Bangalore after completeing my 2D Animation From ZICA (Zee Institute of Creative Arts) Mumbai. Here In Takshaa Our Faculty is really really good. These guys are really professional. Manu Ittina is our Animation teacher. He has worked in some Hollywood movies Such Shrek and Madagaskar. Believe me He is Simply the Best.
I think its good enough to start with. .....
